Mentioned twice in The Great Gatsby, a book allegedly based on our own Remus, the Mint Julep was first referenced in John Davis’ 1803 book, Travels of Four Years and a Half in the United States: 1798-1802. While it has become synonymous with the Kentucky Derby, it was believed to have been a popular choice at many of Remus’ infamous parties.
